Information for Healthcare Providers

In the Champlain Region, there is a great deal of variation in how trans healthcare is practiced. While most providers follow WPATH guidelines, these standards are flexible and support different practice models and approaches to care.

If you are new to trans healthcare, the resources below will get you started. However, you may notice different language and criteria supported by WPATH versus Sherbourne Health Centre. If you are stuck on the best path forward, we can connect you to literature or more experienced providers for advice.

WPATH Standards of Care Version 7

Standards of care for transgender medicine are produced by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). This field is rapidly evolving so it is important to stay current on these standards. Version 7 is the most recent iteration of the WPATH SOC.

Champlain BASE eConsultation Service

eConsult is a service in the Champlain LHIN to improve access to medical specialists by primary care providers on behalf of their patients, thereby reducing the interval to receive specialist advice as compared to traditional referrals. Through eConsult, a Primary Care Provider (PCP) can submit a consult request to a participating specialty through a secure web-based tool. The request is processed and assigned to an appropriate specialist, who is asked to respond within 7 days. To participate in this project as a health care provider (consultant or consultee), please see contact information below.
